Fitness Studio or Gym QuickBooks Cleanupfor Texas owners
Dallas is where this practice sits. The billing export is what you open on the call.
Bring the export
The call is from Dallas
Dallas is the city this practice works from. The billing export is shared on the call. You stay at the studio. We will not draw a second desk on your street.
Outside Dallas and Fort Worth we still say we are all Texans, and we stop there. This practice has not stood on your floor. Nothing on the page invents that visit. The items we name are the ones on the export you already hold, read from Dallas.
The photograph on this page is the Texas State Capitol in Austin, from the grounds, dome included. Daniel Mayer made it. The license is CC BY-SA 3.0. The practice is still in Dallas.
Floor time is on the amusement list
Comptroller publication 96-259 taxes games and participatory sports played at a health club or a fitness center. On this page a fee to use the floor, to take a scheduled class, or to join a game the club hosts is treated as that amusement, unless a later Comptroller page carves that exact charge out.
No membership-dues exemption is stated here. The note we rely on does not give one. If the dues are really time on the floor, they stay on the amusement item until a Comptroller page applies a different test to that charge.
A bottle, a shirt, and a supplement are not the floor fee. They are goods at the counter, and each one needs an item so the sales-tax return can see it apart from the class. A supplement is read against publication 94-155 before anyone calls it exempt. That publication exempts an over-the-counter human drug that carries an FDA Drug Facts panel, and it exempts a dietary supplement only when the labeling rules on that page are met. It says CBD products are not dietary supplements and do not receive that exemption. A flavor name on a tub is not how we decide.
The percent follows the address of the sale
On its own, the state rate for a taxable sale is 6.25 percent. A local piece can come from the city, the county, or a transit district. Those added pieces, taken together, cannot pass 2 percent. Count every piece on one sale and the buyer still stops at 8.25 percent.
Where the charge happened is what picks the local piece. That street is checked on the Comptroller rate locator the day the charge is made. A percent borrowed from a neighboring city is not written on this page.
After a permit is approved, a letter names the rhythm. A studio on a monthly rhythm files by the 20th of the following month. A studio on a quarterly rhythm files in April, July, October, and January. Yearly filers send the year that just closed, and January 20 is the date on that letter. When that date falls on Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday the offices observe, the filing moves ahead to the next day the offices are open. The holiday list for that year is read before the moved day is promised.
A company still has a May report
Splitting the items does not retire the franchise report. A studio that is a company still owes the Comptroller that yearly report, because the report covers the privilege of doing business in Texas. Someone who teaches under their own name, and who has no company, is generally outside that report.
Two report years, 2026 and 2027, treat 2,650,000 dollars of revenue as the point where franchise tax falls to nothing. Meet that revenue figure or stay under it and the franchise tax for the year is zero. That year does not ask for the long report. You may still have to file the short information report.
When tax is owed, a counter business that is retail or wholesale is often at 0.375 percent. Work that is not retail and not wholesale is often taxed at 0.75 percent. On this 2026 and 2027 row, pay subtracted for one person stops at 480,000 dollars. The 2024 and 2025 report years sit on a different line. Their no-tax threshold is 2,470,000 dollars. A figure from 2024 does not get pasted into a 2026 sentence.
The ordinary day is May 15. When May 15 lands on Saturday, Sunday, or a holiday the offices observe, the report waits until the next open office day. Filing the report late costs 50 dollars. Tax that arrives within 30 days after the due day draws a penalty of 5 percent of the tax. Tax that is still out after those 30 days draws a penalty of 10 percent of the tax. Once 61 days have passed, interest begins, and the percent for that quarter is read from the Comptroller interest page rather than copied here. This page does not freeze that percent.
Leave the short report unfiled and a Texas court can refuse the company both as the one suing and as the one answering. The same gap can place certain debts on the people who run the company. Should the year call for the long form, the margin paths live on the Comptroller page written for that report year. This studio page does not redraw those paths.
What to bring from a Texas studio
Bring the export. Say which rows are floor time, which are a class on the schedule, and which are a bottle, a shirt, or a supplement. Say whether the studio is a company, and whether this year's May report has been filed, including the short report in a year with no tax.
The first job is still the month that has not closed. Sales tax is not narrated off a month that fails to tie. A federal return on this desk follows a month only after the books have closed it. Those federal dates do not move because the studio is in Texas.
Name the mixed Texas item
You will be talking to the Steven Palmieri practice.
